Patching Pants..... do you?

I have question for all you gals that have children - do any of you still patch the kids pants when they get holes in them? I have often thought of this, only because - I do..... So many people throw out pants/jeans because they have a nick in them or a hole, but is it really so bad to patch them and use them for everyday? There is no right or wrong answer, I am just COMPLETLY curious. The Milk Man thought I should show you all how I do it, but I dont want to put it up here if no one will benefit from it. Also, does anyone keep the hand me downs or is that a thing of the past. I keep EVERYTHING, boots, shoes, cloths, toys - the whole 10 yards man. Milk Dud is wearing some of the cloths that Big Son wore 10 years ago - same blankets, sleepers, socks, cloth diapers - you name, Heidi still has it!!! Now I am a keeper , but NOT a pack rat. I dont just keep everything, but only things that I KNOW will be useful at some point in time. SO - how many of you are like me and how many say 'Ta heck with it' and give it a toss?

When my boys were small, I bought their clothes at Sears. If they wore out before they were outgrown, Sears would replace them free. Since they were so hard on the knees of their jeans, we had many pairs replaced! I don't know if they still offer this service or not.

I kept everything when they were little, but not anymore. I also patched them as well. Iron on patches were my friend.
I keep everyting of MINE, and still wear pants if they have holes.
My horse dresses better than I do it seems.

I don't have storage to keep things. I wish I did. If we don't use it, it's got to go. BUT yes I mend things and usually the winter pants become the summer cut offs. My girls like the holes they say they look "SICK" you know how it is.

I always saved and mended cloths for my kids when they were small. I even saved some toys and now the grandkids play with them, the fisher price farm, the doll house, barbie dolls and all my sons scale model tractors and equipment.

Yup, I was a saver and a patcher too when my kids were growing up. I looked for "generic" pants and hoodies and teeshirts, boots, etc, kept them patched up, and each kidlet wore their older sibling's stuff. However, youngest daughter (number 4) was NOT thrilled with my habit! I always figured they grew so fast their duds had lots of wear left. Now my kidlets have kids of their own and seem to think they need new and expensive name brand stuff. Where did I go wrong?

Yes! I have kept my baby clothes for example, recently gave them to my baby for her baby, she is 22 now. And she gave me a pair of her trousers and asked ME to repair them for her. Nowadays things are so expensive I think we need to do this.

Heidi - I'd love to see a post on how you patch pants. I may learn a thing or tow. As for myself - I attempt to fix everything before tossing out.

I have 3 children - a girl (7), boy (5), and a girl (3). I saved both of my older children's clothes until I had my 3rd. Then I had my tubes tied, so - barring a miracle- I won't be needing anymore baby clothes. So I have given them away, minus a few that I just couldn't part with. I do give away my son's and youngest daughter's clothes now and keep the 7 year old's for her younger sister, socks, shoes and all.

I would love to see a tutorial on patching. Happy Thanksgiving!

I dont patch, but I do save. by the time the guys have holes they have outgrown the pants or what have you, and the pants are really ready to fall apart in the washer.

I save some things- but not all. If it looks like it will have a use somewhere, I will take it to Goodwill or list it on an area freebie list.

I used to patch the knees in my girls pants! Pants with patches were good enough for everyday and then come summer shorts!
