Happy New Year - Welcome 2010

Well, I am to old to bring in the new year at midnight - so I do the second best thing... I bring it in when I go to bed. Milk Man gets a kiss - the kids get an extra squeeze and I get some shut eye.. What are you all doing for the new year?? I plan to loose some weight.. Milk Man wants me to gain some if you get my drift, but I am getting to OLD for this...I dont know if I can handle another little one, as much as I would LOVE ONE!!

For this post, I want everyone to describe their first memory of New Years. What was the first New Year that you remember. My first one I was about 5 or 6 and my folks had people over. They had a '6 pack' of Pepsi and 2 tombstone pizzas for 7 people.. that was such a treat! What happened to things being simple? Why do we think that we need to be so over indulged? That little things like a couple of pizza's just isnt enough... ok, I will shut up. This is not ment to be a speech about economics!! Do any of you remember Christmas's when you were very young? I remember lots of things that most people dont.. dumb things - like the tree topper on my grandma's tree..her old ornaments that at the time I thought were SO ugly but now cherrish them dearly. SO - I am going to bed my dear friends!

May God the King of all bless you in the new year with all of the best!!!

Memories? Well, I don't know.. have to think about that one some....

One of my favorites though: the first New Year that Dear Husband and I spent together- we had a HUGE Thunderstorm!! Shocker to me, and quite a welcome to the South! LOL... Huh- come to think of it--- it's RAINED every New Year's we have been together. Go figure!

Happy New Year... It's almost as if a weight has lifted with 09 being over with if you ask me. The only thing I remember about ringing in the New year is snake foods and the ex-step-grandfather going out and shooting the rifle off at Midnight. Lets not go down memory lane... anymore :) LOL

Hope you have a wonderful new year!!!!!

Happy New Year. For as long as I can remember my parents have played cards with the same group of friends. They all got together last night too! I think its' cool that a tradition would last over 40 years. Some of this group also goes camping together in the fall. When all of us kids were younger we went too and ran wild outside in the dark while the parents played cards.

My earliest recollection of celebrating New Years was an evening of playing cards (cribbage, gin rummy) with family friends ... but everyone went home early cuz we were all farmers and had chores to face the next morning. I think I was about 10 or 11 years old, after we moved into town, when I was awakened by the revelry next door and realized for the first time that SOME people actually rang the New Year in AT MIDNIGHT! Until then, that concept had never occurred to me ... LOL!

While I confess to my share of midnight (or later) revelries over the years, it appears I'm reverting back to childhood cuz I barely made it to 10 pm last night.

My Dad used to say "start the year like you want to continue the year". He put on a new pair of socks, made homemade soup, and read a new book on New Years day so he'd enjoy warm clothes, good food and a good read all year long. I'm going to start some soup as soon as I finish catching up on bloggy friends!

Happy New Year, Heidi!

Happy New Year! We managed to stay up until midnight (I took a nap) then my DH, my two youngest and I all toasted with sparkling cider. Prior to that we watched "Ice Age 3,Dawn of the Dinosaurs" and worked on a puzzle. Our lives are simple here, but I like that. I have losing weight on the top of my resolution list for the first time. I'd be happy just to squeeze in daily walks though. Today we're putting away Christmas decorations and I need to bake so the freezer is stocked up for when we head back to school and work on Monday. Kiss all of those beautiful boys for me and give Milk Man a pat on the... biceps (what did you think I was going to say?). Hugs to you Heidi.

this is so funny! you can tell I grew up in the same part of the state as you! Tombstone pizza was our treat for a big night too! and of course Pepsi, because of the bottling plant in town! we used to joke that they stopped vehicles at the county line to confiscate coke products!!1
Happy Happy New Year sweet girl!!!

Happy New Year Heidi :-D

for the record - some say that I am a "Pepsiolic" ... that and something about chocolate .... o;-p

A New Years Eve memory ... our church use to host New Years Eve parties. We were in a small sized building, and they'd send all of the kids like ten years old through their teens down to the bath house (the church owned lots of property, with a spring fed pond and a bath house, and ....) where we would watch a Christian "film" (movies were tabo ...)and eat something ....

my old web site was - www.xanga.com/thehousethatlovebuilt

My first New Years I can really remember is the year I was 8. My parents went out and decided I was old enough to take care of myself while they were gone (ahhh the 80's). Anyway, I got all settled in my dad's big rocking chair/recliner and suddenly realized I was alone and too scared to put my feet on the floor (boogyman). I was stuck in that chair all night.

CHRISTMAS: Every year my parents fight over the tree topper. My dad wants his mothers swedish star thing (my personal choice) and my mom wants her grandma's nasty tinsle star and cross that you would never know was tinsle they are such a tangled mess. Anyway. Dad always wins, but mom's snatchy star is always right under.

The last christmas I got to be with my sister before she was killed we were the official clean up crew after dinner. Everyone else was off milking cows or taking naps, so Lib and I decided to drink an entire box of wine while washing the dishes. We laughed so hard. Mom said it took the entire year to find everything we "put away."

When I was really little we had a woodburning cook stove and a potbellied stove for heat-no running water. We had an outhouse and the whole shebang. Needless to say, we were broke. Every year though, my dad would get my future BIL to go outside with sleigh bells when I wasn't looking and shake them so I would think Santa was comming. Since the chimney was so small, we had to "let santa in" and I would have to go running into my room before he found out I was up. Well, one year I heard the bells, jumped up and ran blindly into my door frame smashing and bloodying my nose! I would not be deterred though and ran to my bed, sore nose and all and did my best to stifle my crying until Santa left. DEVOTION.
