There has been an accident....

Hi guys - sorry I have been absent, but things have spun a bit out of control the last week. Palmer, my oldest got his hand caught in a grain auger and has lost his middle finger and crushed to others. I am trying to juggle, cleaning, cooking, laundry, nursing him back to health, I am now back to milking full time and helping the Milk Man with all of the chores and field work. Take one man out of the game and it turns everything on its head.... Thank God and I do mean God - he is going to make a full recovery, minus his middle finger from the middle knuckle up... could have been his whole arm or death had the belt not slipped and the Milk Man walked in the shed the minute that it happened. Jesus is amazing isnt He....always taking care of us when we need it the most. :) SO, I am hoping that I will be able to post a bit tonight. Please stick with me and dont delete me from your blog rolls..... I will be back with pictures of all of my trials and tribulations .... and possibly really blood shot eyes... and a snotty nose... and crap on my shirt.

Love you all..... even you the bus driver and the window licker... they know who they are... ***giggle - looks at Coffee Man and Willow Witch****

later dudes....

Sorry to hear about Palmer! My sister lost the tip of her index finger on the sickle of our combine. Luckily they were able to sew it back on. My dad still gets sad any time we talk about any of our farm injuries...Comes with the territory.

Dude- Palmer- keep yer fingers away from the auger, man!

(Now, for those who feel this comment is crass and unfeeling, all I can say is- y'all dont know farmers, do ya? Please feel free to direct any comments to me, rather than my sweet sista-from-anotha-motha. She has more than enough going on right now.)

Now Heidi- ship the kids down here to Auntie Mrs Mom's for a while. Your crew with the two (err.. FOUR actually,) that are here would be nothing! ;)

Hang in there baby, and know that we'd be there if we could leave the folks here...

Love you girl- pass the sugars around to the crew from us too.

Heidi,
Crap, I am glad it isnt worse, feel bad it happened at all. My pop's has lost his fair share of fingers was always one of his fears for us kids, always preaching at us. How is Palmer taking it, Milkman OK? You want some help, not sure how much work we would get done together, but there would be lots of laughter and milkman, standing there *tapping* his foot at us.... Speaking of bacon... Ok, Ill back to licken the window, nosepicker.... love you...

Sorry to hear about Palmer's middle finger, but glad that it wasn't worse. My step-grandfather (of the twisted family tree) lost *all* his fingers and one thumb in a tarring accident when he was a young man. He later made jokes about not being accused of twiddling his thumbs or sticking his fingers into the pie. I guess Palmer now has one less nail to trim, and he'll have to give rude gestures with his other hand. :) KIDDING!! Hang in there--we're all praying for you! Get well soon, Palmer!

Oh no! So sorry to hear that. Tell Palmer to hang in there. I lost half my thumb and part of my middle finger on my left hand in a little roping mishap a few years back. I won't say I don't think about it daily, but I do get by just fine. He will, too. So glad it was only his finger.

mrs moms comment isnt crass , he will get alot worse from farmers in the area. when we cheat what could have been alot worse people tend to deal with it in a way that comes across to others as unfeeling. glad he is ok .

and now if he flips anyone off , he will only half mean it !

hope he heals quickly

heidi, So sorry to hear about Palmer's Accident. i know firsthand how scary that is. My husband did the same thing a little over a year ago. He lost the pointer finger and part of the second finger on his right hand. It will be a long recovery, but tell him we are praying for him.

Keeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. When he recovers he will have a lot of fun with THAT middle finger I'll bet!

Hey--I'm Andi's sister (see above) with the farm injury. My husband cut off the end of his middle finger when mowing a few years ago. Since then we have noticed that in our community there are plenty of people with 'maimed'(!) hands. Mostly men of course. So, all this is to say that I'm sure you're sad about the injury (and rejoicing in the what did not happen) but he can join that elite club of people with stories to tell! So glad it's just a finger!

oh dear!!! I'm sending good healing prayers and thoughts his way. Lucky he has you for a nurse, he'll be fine in no time! daughter number 2 is going to be student teaching just north of Eau Claire, for a teeny school whose mascot is.............. the Fighting Crickets!! are you familiar with this town? sounds pretty tough to me!

YIKES!!! Omigosh. How terrible. Like you said, it could have been so much worse. Oh, I bet the Milk Man flew like he'd been shot from a gun. Farm equipment can be so dangerous. I'm so glad he will make a recovery. Nurse him well.

Heidi I am so sorry will be praying for a speedy recovery! Poor guy working on a farm has it's hazards as well as it's joys but you'll be a great nurse! If you need any tips let me know. The main thing is to elevate his hand to keep it from throbbing you can put it up on pillows and ice packs help too. It hurts like you know what!!!!! poor guy. Like you said glad he didn't get killed!

I am SO sorry to hear about that!!! I hope he heals quickly - that experience might save him from a more deadly accident later.

You know guys look more macho when they have scars and stuff. Girls like it! You don't have to tell him that tho until he's the right age!

I'm so glad that it wasn't worse. A classmate of mine cut part of her finger off cuz she didn't get it out of the way when using the papercutter. You could have heard her scream from Timbuktu to Texas!

Heidi, I will be thinking of you and your family, thank goodness it was not worse for Palmer though it sounds bad enough!

Oh my! I'm so sorry, it must have been very traumatic for all of you. I do find the "could have been worse" comments from other farm wives amusing... you all are a tough crowd! As a milk consumer, thanks for all the sacrifices you make to farm, and especially to your son!

I feel for you and him. My oldest son was in an auto accident 3 weeks ago and had a head injury. He seems to be fine now though. Yes, God does watch over them for us. Hope you don't have to work too hard, though. Everyone so depends on the woman of the house. You are very strong, Heidi! I haven't been here in a while because of our own dire personal circumstances. I have had to take a part time job in addition to trying to keep my tour business afloat . . with tourism down . . . so my blog posts have been sporadic. How can we do it ALL? Blessings! BW

I am so sorry to hear of Palmer's accident. Farming can be so very very dangerous but I don't need to tell you that. Glad to hear he is going to make a good recovery, please try and take care of yourself too as you take care of everyone else.

Very sorry to hear this. Prayers for your family and handsome son. My uncle lost his arm from the elbow down from a combine. Thank God it wasn't any worse. Those augers are so dangerous, but so useful at the same time. Hope your life slows down some, atleast all the drama and not needed excitment. Don't apologize for yur business, we all understand about blogging and sometimes its just hard to post. I always wonder if those gals who are hosting some sort of blog party or "whatever Wednesday" do they have a real life at all or so they sit on the computer literally all day long. I too have struggled to post regularly this summer, but hey, it is what it is and I write when I can and you do the same. Take care of those sweet boys,
