1 of my passions......

The last few weeks have been busy with my work, cleaning, cooking, child rearing and thinking. Thinking about things that are near to my heart and things that concern me about the way our country is being run..... yes, I am going to talk about politics.... Before I say one more word, I am going to tell EVERYONE - if you leave a comment today DO NOT slam on ANYONE else. This is a respectful post and I value others opinions even when I don't agree with them, for the simple fact that I EXPECT the same respect I offer and show.... period.... That being said here ya go everyone.

What has happened to us - not our country but to us as people? Why do we not protect every life no matter what the stage of it, the 'value' of it, the cost of it, the 'out come' of it or the simple fact that its God given? I look at all of the things that go on around me and it truly saddens me that we are a society of people who want 'convenience' to rule their lives. The morals, values and yes traditions that MOST of the United States citizens hold dear are NOT reflected in our politics and our governing body's. I know that I am far removed from the 'city' and the 'city' way of life, I am not cutting on anyone who lives in the city - I am only stating what I know about 'country folks' - yes we are a simple bunch for all whom feel the need to educate me... When I refer to 'city folk' I am making a judgement only because I don't know what else to call people who differ from me in lifestyle, not actual location of residence ,,,, clear as mud? :) Back to the point of my post. Why do city folk feel the need to have the life of another be less than, if its not what they would want? Why do they feel that an unborn child, an embryo (stem cell), an elderly person who may or may not have their 'right mind', for a child born that was unwanted, or a child that was the outcome of a botched abortion is now considered and I quote 'a product of intercourse', for a person that is not 'productive' or is retarded, a person that has brain damage and is 'not there' - is less than what God intended them to be? My mind and soul can not fathom the reasoning behind the actions of city folk - the selfishness, the self absorbed actions, the need to have all of their wants fulfilled IMMEDIATELY if not sooner and the thought that they are entitled to it all. I have a very difficult time writing about this without getting angry and accusatory, but I have a conviction today to write about this because it is so dear to me. This is my opinion and I am completely entitled to it as you all are to yours... I can not understand how people who say they value life will consider taking a life in the hope of saving another.... willfully. If a person or child dies and are gracious enough to allow their body's to be used for others - GREAT. To take from what God has given or has allowed to be made, shame on us. Why do city folk feel that they are entitled to one more day than God has graced them with - that they MUST live a productive, enjoyment filled life???? Is that an inherent right from God. NO, we are to be as he desires us to be. Examples to others and that includes the sick, lame or disadvantaged. I know what you are all thinking, I am a cold hearted person and that I don't feel for the children that suffer disease that 'stem cell's could fix.... I have never lost a child, I have never had a sick child that I have watched fade away and die... your half right. I feel that all life is precious and that is for a purpose - especially the sick and less than. They serve as reminders that we are fortunate, blessed and most of all required to be loving and generous. To help those that can be helped and to comfort those who can not. To take notice of their life and cherish the times that you have with them. I could not in good conscience live with the fact that a treatment/cure was found for me at the expense of an unborn child or undeveloped child's life. No, I don't want to see people especially children suffer, yet I believe that God allows these things to teach us the value of life - not that everyone should live 100 years. He gives us a certain amount of days - I believe that is true for everyone including children. I sound cold hearted and undeserving of my children you say? Well, let me tell you that I have not had sick children that I have watched suffer and pass away - I would not wish that on anyone. But I have lost, 6 children to be exact. But I know that God has allowed these loss's to teach me to love even more the ones I have and to cherish His blessings. To make sure that I do right by them and love them as He does. I would have loved to been able for my children's short lives to have mattered to someone other than me, for their tiny body's to have brought about good for others... but they did not. I will never be able to understand a woman that willfully lets her child be taken from her body - I am not judging her I am stating I will never understand it. To me, this is where the 'city folk' come in to play - self absorbed, don't want to be stuck with a mistake.... A very important person once said - I will teach my daughters morals, but if they make mistakes I don't want them to be punished with a baby..... wow, sad statement huh. A child is punishment for wrong doing? The child isn't the punishment, the responsibility of a child is because some one wasn't being responsible in the first place. If a child is punishment than prison is a cake walk.... tv, cable, no cleaning, no cooking, no working etc. We are teaching our children that shirking the responsible thing to do is ok... shame on us. Our fellow people are going to be paying a very high price at our children's expense. All children are an inconvenience, yes they are - don't judge me for saying that because its true, let me finish before you hang me.... but its an inconvenience that we choose and desire. I guess more than anything I want to understand, not agree with, why someone chooses to end life. I believe that the Bible is the inherent word of God, not just stories passed down. In the Bible God says 'Above all else choose life'. How is that misunderstood by a 'man of faith'...... It does NOT say choose life at the willful expense/death of another. Above all else choose life - over money, over material things, over pleasure, over 'good feelings' over everything - ABOVE ALL ELSE.... For those who have retarded children, autistic children or children with disabilities - do you believe your child has worth? Because I am seriously afraid that others don't. The same ones who implore for the destruction of embryos for the sake of a cure, are the same ones that consider your children to be less than perfectly created for Gods work. These city folk are also the ones who would allow your daughter to get birth control at 13 without you knowing it. Think it doesn't happen, I assure you it does and is done with your tax dollars. As I have said before this is my opinion and I have my right to it just as you have to yours. I don't want to be judged for it, but measured by it......

You go Heidi. This is a d@mn hard issue, and no one wants to "talk about" things like this because you "might hurt someone, or make them feel bad".

Well, YOU know my thoughts on that...

Kudos to you for having strong beliefs. For standing up for what you believe IN. And for having the courage to talk about this issue- and others- in the open.

Bless you sis. Much love from this corner.

I don't understand peoples thoughts on this either my friend. It is scary like a really bad movie. there is a big difference between, searcing for a cure, and playing God.I agree with the kids being something you have to work at. Completley. Isn't anything worth having worth the hard times as well as the good times? If it was all easy, what lessons would we learn.
I think that is part of the problem in the world today. Some people think everything should be easy, they just don't want to work for anything anymore?

MMW, Living in the country, you are more attuned to the cycle of life. You plant, you nurture, you pray for rain ... and hopefully you harvest. You invest a lot of time and work BEFORE you see results. Your work is with things that man has never created. Modified occasionally ... but never created. You were taught and read the words of God given to mankind to help us with life.

There are a lot of people who live surrounded only by the creations of man (a city, a car, a street, concrete walls, glass towers ...). They were taught and read(?) -- listen only to the words of man. Is the instrument greater than the creator? They think they are ... because they think they are their own creator ... out of the universal body of cosmic energy ... the cosmic mind, they have differentiated themselves. And through the teachings of man, they have learned that they can have everything now! That all problems are resolved in a 30-minute or 1-hour scenario. That death isn't really death ... it's a game, just a movie. And everything is okay as long as it benefits you. And you don't get caught or punished. Whether on a personal ... or a corporate level. In many colleges, ethics is just a class you have to take to get a degree. It's not really that important, because the "real world" doesn't actually work that way.

In the name of "Freedom" ... we are preserving tyranny, disobedience, and fostering darkness ... because light requires rules, boundaries, and morals.

Within cities, people are isolated as individuals ... in a mobile society, often without familial ties around them. In the country, people have "chores" and work together as a family or extended family groupings for the benefit of all. In the city, people work only to benefit themselves.

"Freedom of choice" is something you have when you decide whether or not to have sexual intercourse. Choices have consequences. No sex, means no baby ... Freedom to do whatever you want. Choosing sexual intercourse is placing an order for a baby ... you don't always get one, but it is a likely result. There are responsibilities to be shouldered when you make that choice ... even in the animal kingdom. What other species places a baby order ... and then does everything it possibly can to kill the baby before it is "born?" Only man, attempting to avoid the consequences and responsibilities of choices.

Yes, I agree. Medical ethics is working overtime to keep up with all the "advancements". We have learned in our family that just because something is medically possible due to technology does not mean you have to avail yourself of that technology. Just because someone CAN be kept alive using all kinds of medical technology does not mean they SHOULD be kept alive. When does God's will come into play and when do we let nature take it's course?

On the flipside..... right to choose?? Excuse me? The last time I checked only God had the right to determine who lives and who dies. Since when does the individual trump God? My father suffered with Parkinson's disease for many, many years and I can tell you that he would NEVER have wished for a cure that could only be found through the stem cells of aborted fetuses.

The book planly states : Man will dominate man to his injury !

It also says : It DOES NOT belong to man even to direct his step!

simply put , as long as man tries to rule himself , he will fail and we will see this world get worse

While I agree with your on embryonic stem cell research I must state that much of the research being done currently involves stem cells grown from adult donors. I have great hopes that research following this vein will someday help cure or prevent others from suffering from diseases like M.S. (I think mine might be a little far gone to benifit). So perhaps some compassion and common sense restricting where the stem cells come from would be better than banning all of the research. No, I don't agree with abortion and using these little people's bodies is wrong and a travesty. However, I fear that many people aren't aware of or don't care that stem cells can come from other sources. I also believe that these other sources need more attention by the medical field.

I live in the suburbs because of job necessity, not choice. I can't change where I live, but maybe I can get a few chickens. I loved my chickens and miss having them "sing" to me in the early morning hours. Do I fit into that dreaded "City" category or can I still be a misplaced country girl?

I consider myself a lucky person, three healthy, beautiful children. I also respect the woman who says I can't raise a child. I respect the person who says I can't cope or financially support a disabled child. I respect the right to choose. Wholeheartedly.

I also understand that there are people who cannot have children and desire it. Right here, in our own backyard, are thousands of children who need homes, yet people insist on out of country adoptions. The reason, they want a baby, an infant. No one wants a 14 year old.

I consider myself lucky because I am healthy. I do not have a terminal disease that attacks my body. No MS, Parkinsons or ALS. I do have a former boss who is in the latter stages of ALS. I understand that his desire to watch his teenage son grow to a respectable young man is so great, that advancement from stem cell research may have been his only chance at life.

There are many, many places that we need to look in order to overcome our short falls as a society.

We also need to remember that even in the "wild", animals eat their young when they feel they will not survive. When they are less than perfect.

Jenn said "We also need to remember that even in the "wild", animals eat their young when they feel they will not survive. When they are less than perfect."

Please post some examples of that.

Male cats will kill the young of another male to get the female to cycle and thus pass on his genetic code. I can't recall any situations of a female killing and eating her own young, except in stress situations.

Rats do it ... even polar bears do it. Some do it to bias a litter, some do it because the infant is too weak or feeble or even unwilling/able to nurse.

There are numerous studies out there that you can read on the subject done by universities all over the world.

It happens.

What's with the "city Folk" business. It sounds like you believe your beliefs and morals are stronger and more perfect because you live in a rural area. What? I don't think geography plays a role in a person's decision to choose right or wrong. And doesn't the Bible also say "Judge not, lest ye be judged"? or "let he that is without sin throw the first stone"? Just a thought. I'm not faulting you for voicing your opinion, I respect it, but I also believe that nothing is black and white and to judge a person is wrong. I believe the Bible also teaches that. "City folks" have Bibles too.

I have known MMW for a while and know she wasnt implying anything , the reason for the diff in terms was to distinguish , and simply put the thinking is more readly seen in " city life" than in "country life" . U are absolutely correct it isnt about location , its about concepts . I have Many friends who are city people who have great morals and are god fearing people . i do believe the use of the terms was to simply make distinction in ideas for sake of post.

Heidie, I could not agree more with the use of adult stem cells and have NO problem with research on adults stem cells and would want nothing more than for cures to be found for all diseases...just not at the expence of children born, unborn or not quite formed..

Jenn, Yes animals eat their young but that is why we were given thumbs, we are not animals.. :) I also said that I respect their decision but dont understand it nor agree with it. Just as you dont agree with me. I am not angry at them for their desicion, but feel that their are other ways to manage their bodys and body functions other than abortions. I also completly understand someone wanting to see their children grow up, to spend more time with their loved ones. I truly do.. Again with the animals, we are humans - thus humanity or being humane, we have abilitys to deal with the disabled, retarded, the less than. We can help them survive.

Diane - Coffee man hit it on the head.. I am not judging city folk, I was only making a distinction with a set of 'ideals' or beliefs. I am not judging as I said several times in my post. I am not being hostile nore appreciate somone doing so to me. If you read the post completly and looked for the tone that it was written in, you would have seen that I am not judging where someone lives, nor what they do.. Its my opinion as I stated - you have the freedom to not agree with me, but not to fault me for it or to say I am being judgmental. I cast no stone, nor did I say anyone was sinning...those are your words. And I dont know about city folk having Bibles.... But thank you for your opinion. I hope you continue to read here and comment. I like the diversity - it makes us all think. :)

Heidi, this is your blog. If you want to say the sky is pink, aliens walk among us or that we should all join nudist colonies then espouse away. Life would be boring if everyone thought the same way. Just because you stated your beliefs it does not mean that you were being disrespectful to anyone else... in fact, you bent over backwards in your post to make that known. My pre-caffeinated comment was intended to be in agreement with you. Sometimes the end does not justify the means. Research into other sources of stem cells needs to be the focus. The boys (and some women) back in Washington need to pull their collective heads out of their arses and find ways to make things work. Right now laws on the books do not specify, but make blanket statements regarding many issues. Sometimes we need specifics and exceptions to laws. Wish I was closer to come play with your beautiful boys in person. Don't let worries from opinions, etc.from the internet spill over into your personal life. You give those little guys hugs and kisses then wave at the Milk Man from the other Heide in WA (He's too fertile to hug).

Heidi said...

Heidie - thanks for the that! I dont let this spill into my personal life. I know this is a touchy subject, but at times there is a need for things to be said and this post was filling that need. The Milk Man read it and was wondering why I used city folk too... so I had to explain to him also.... LOL My answer to him was, I dont understand a city lifestyle and I dont understand those who suport these issues either - therfore - CITY FOLK!!! LOL

WOW very cool. So here's the question, if the MAJORITY of Americans feels the same as you do, whether they be city or country; why do we allow a minority the far right to take power and make policy that will ultimately destroy us?
All life is sacred. All babies are sacred. I believe that the consequences for the deaths of 50 MILLION babies have already begun.
NO good thing has ever come from embryonic stem cell research. It's a facade to perpetuate the billion dollar industry of abortion. Don't kid yourself, money is huge in this nightmare. Adult stem cell research is providing all of the medical advances, each and every time.
Any time you want to climb up on a high horse and fire ways you just go right ahead. I may live in a city but my heat is in the country.

I actually define it as believers and unbelievers. There is no gray.

on a happy note come enter my contest.

Heidi said...

Karen, you hit on something that I did'nt want to touch - the money. So for the sake of 'research' do we then pay a woman to take her baby? Do woman who are poor then get pg and have their baby's used as research for a living? When and where would it end...

I love you passion and love for humanity. I wish more people would be so passionate. I believe what you saying but I also believe that God is in control of all situations. Fighting this political battle is unfortunately not one we will ever win. The country is just not ruled on Christian beliefs anymore. But God, does love every lost or neglected child and he has also numbered their days. We may never understand except to say that He uses all things to work for the good and glorify Him. I pray the decisions made today by young women who focus on themselves and convience more than Him will one day be convicted so much that they fall on their knees before the one whom loves them. the great I AM. We can only do so much and we need to love and see others as Christ sees them.

Hey there,
I was going to comment that not all 'city folk' believe what you say, and not all 'country folk' do either (at least, where I live). But I see you clarified that - thank you.
For what it's worth - I do have a disabled child, but I don't want or expect embryonic stem cells to 'solve' it. I feel sad that people see my child as a 'problem to solve' rather than a gift, just as they are.
Anyway, the largest advances in stem cell research have been the result of adult stem cells, as a previous commenter said.
