Lefse

Does anyone like Lefse? Do you know what Lefse is? I was thinking about doing a post about how to make it, but dont want to if no one is interested? Leave a comment either way... OH and I a few days there is going to be a contest...... not sure what the prize will be yet. Maybe a jar of home made saurkraut. How do you think it would do on a trip through the mail?!??!?

  1. The Trout used to love lefse rolled up with butter and sugar and taken with him while deer hunting in WI. Best snack there was, he says. We just had sauerkraut tonight and need to replenish the larder. Do you think it would explode when it hot to the hot temps in Florida? Ha Ha

  2. The Trout here!! I fondly remember life on the Iowa farm with my Bohemian mother making the biggest crock of Kraut - loved to sneak on the porch and have a handfull of that 1/2 done Kraut - good and salty - a real TOOT maker I think!! That plus my brother's attempt at home made root beer with all the yeast!! BURB!!
Mother had to learn the Norwegian way too after marrying my father Oscar!! Lefse was a stable as a kid!! We have had the privilege to have dined in some of the finest restuarants in America and Europe but give me those dinners on the Iowa farm and my mother in laws table anyday - sure yours is mighty tasty also! I really respect the life you and your husband are living with your sons - God Bless

  3. I know that lefse is Swedish or Norwegian (or from somewhere in that part of the world) in origin and some kind of bread that's absolutely yummy with saskatoon berry jam ... but I've never made it. I vote for a lefse cooking lesson! I'm not so sure about sauerkraut in the mail though.

  9. Oh, wrap in in plenty of packing peanuts and it will do fine! Sauerkraut is my favorite food and I haven't had homemade since Mom died in 1990, well, she was ill before that so it was a few years before. Gosh girl I could fall in love! Iove your blog and looking at your darling babies. My boys are grown and it seems like just yesterday, they were little. Cherish them.

  11. Yes! Please teach us how to make lefse. My husband's family is Norwegian and one of his aunts used to send us lefse for Christmas, but it has been a few years since we've gotten any. I would love to know how to make it! I think it is important to keep family traditions alive.
