I married the man of my dreams, he is a sexy farm hunk and we have 5, yup 5 boys. That keeps us both busy and not to mention all of the farming that goes on. All of my pictures are taken by me and I claim the rights to them, so please dont copy them or reuse them for any reason - THANK YOU!!
Anyone here??? I am in the process of canning blueberry jam, cherry syrup for home made pop, watermelon rind pickles and canned shallots... Any one got somthing they want to share that they can? Like somthing that is out of the ordinary? SOOOOO Give me somthing new to try!
Squeeze those babies from me. Bet they are HUGE now, and eating you out of house and home. I'd say smack the Milk Man's Hams, but dude... next thing we'd know you'd come back and tell us another wee one was on the way ;)
Mmmm.....can I come live with you? I like to do laundry.....lol I would love to can stuff. But I think I need my garden to grow first....some blossoms on the squash, but no squash :/
Nice to see you back, even if it's brief! I don't can a lot anymore, just a few "faves" for myself like strawberry jam and applesauce. I'm growing several different kitchen herbs on my balcony this year, and need to start thinking about ways to preserve some of them soon. Cheers!
Pineapple zucchini. I shred zucchini put pineapple juice on it with some sugar and can it. I use it in place of pineapple in recipes all the time. You cannot tell the difference.
I just got a new book titled "Pickles & Relishes" by Andrea Chesman. Found it on line at amazon. It is AWESOME!!! covers every kind of pickle and method known to woman I think! It's going to keep me busy for years.
Next year I'm going to plant more herbs and seasonings. They cost ka ching ka ching to buy.
How in the tarnation do you post once every blue moon and get a dozen comments no problem? NO FAIR!!!
I have big plans for peach jam from my own tree, and plum and apricot compliments of my mom...However, all I've accomplished is putting them in the freezer to be done another day!
However, I have pureed scads of tomatoes and peppers and placed in freezer bags, ready to make salsa on Wednesday!
Hello, Heidi - me, too, canning that is. I've not been posting much either.
I put up pickles, hot salsa, and 3 different jams - strawberry, plum and peach, and I'm wantin' to make some jalapeno jelly before all my peppers are gone.
My friend just made some raspberry/mango jelly-jam and it was WONDERFUL!!! I gotta have me some more of that stuff!
Take a gallon glass milk jug put 1 lb sugar in bottom , fill with cherries , and 1 fifth brandy . close in a manner so it can breathe when sugar is all gone , take out cherries and drink . Extremely strong and do NOT let kids eat cherries they WILL get hammered LOL
Guys - I have NO idea why anyone comes here!!!! LOL but I know that I am sooo glad that you all do! I miss this very much - but things here are changing. I know thats a lot to leave you all hanging, but soon the details will be all worked through and I will be back with a vengance! LOVE YOU ALL
Mmmm, blueberry jam! I have so much jelly and jam in my pantry from last summer that I'm seriously contemplating not making any this year. Hugs to you and all of your boys.
People come here because you are sweet and lovable and have a good head on your shoulders. Its obvious that you care about people and that draws others to you.
If they just KNEW like i do what a stinker you can be !!
Um. can I have those cordial-in-the-making pictures? By the time we get that posted, it will be fall and we will have to do a segment on the berries...I'll link you if you link to meeeeee :)
I was going to say pickled watermelon but looks like you got that already. I posted my recipe on my blog a year or two ago and most people had not even heard of it! Curious as to how you do yours....I don't leave the rind on. Come say hi....

Love you sista from anotha motha!
I have never tried canning Anything although I used to watch my mom do it all the time growing up. I really want to try blackberry jam :)
I've made Apricot Jam and have some plums and currants in the freezer to make into jam when we get back from camp next week! Good to here from you!
No canning - but make some Chipotle brownies. You won't be sorry.

Probably won't can much this year. Tomatoes are my mainstay, and blight has set in early. *sigh*
No! Sorry.

Here I've been throwing watermelon rinds in the compost pile for years ... you mean they actually make good pickles?! :)

Hi Heidi :-)
I'm asking myself the same question 'Andi' did - how can you stay away and yet have so many commentors?!!!
Due to the still lingering vertigo, I'm not doing the canning and freezing I was really hoping to this year.
Have you canned your own cherry pie filling? Froze blueberries to use in pancakes and muffins? I'm getting hungry, better stop thinking o;-p
Good to hear from you!
