Update on the update - Day is going better, Milk Man came in for a nooner - I MEAN LUNCH - um, lunch yah thats what it is..sure..lunch...
update - Lispy is trying to wash the windows for me with Fabric softner in a spray bottle.... I may drink the cough syrup...
This morning as I went to wake up Dale and Palmer, I flipped light on to find water in my basement... 2 inches of water to be exact and rising. I felt like Gilligan when the S.S. Minnow was sinking - pissed!!! ok maybe he wasn't pissed but I WAS! frigin snow, was my first thought. However when Palmer went out to get the hose, to put on the end of the dehumidifier to drain to the - drain, he said that Big Son had left the hose on outside ALL NIGHT!!! My head just blew off... Needless to say he is in the basement with a mop cleaning it up. He is a complete airhead at times and this was one of those times. I know its his age, but he has GOT to learn that his absent mindedness is NOT something that can continue. He needs to learn to focus etc. Now for all who say maybe he has ADD or ADHD - PA-SHAW! He's got IDONTWANNATHINKABOUTIT....IDONTWANNATHINKABOUTIT is curable with hard work and less play station - I think his mind is just over loaded with crap that has NO use what so ever. Like VIDEO GAMES... but no more. I may have a ceremonial burning of the Nintendo later today - the play station tomorrow just to prove a point. I don't know if we will be having more children for the simple fact that Milk Man blew a nut this morning - the sheet rock in Dales room is wet half way to the ceiling..... SO - anyone got a little extra time to come to Tundra country as Mrs. Mom says and help this frazzled farm wife out? I will beg, I am not above it and I am not above admitting it either. Milk Man is making him stay home to clean up what he can of the mess, he is to mop up all the water - he is going to be busy for most of the day. I am sure some of you think that is to much punishment, but just grounding him - wont work. He must clean up the mess he created, or at least what he is physically able to clean up. I dont have pictures, cuz the batteries in my camera are dead. Who wants to remember this anyway? SO - I am off to get my house cleaned. I have stuff to bake, washing today is about 8 loads - no I am not kidding, and supper wont make itself. Talk to you all a bit later today... anyone got some flippers....
no it isnt to much punishment , i agree with everything you said and am sure you have been on the recieving end of milkmans blown gasket yourself . no fun huh ! he has to learn , and playstation is a good way to ruin a kid . we had the cerimonial selling at the garage sale , teenager actually cried , but lived . see ya later , have a whale of a day !
ReplyDeleteAwwww, I am feeling ya on the, "I can't think past two minutes because I am worried about my video games" school of thought...it drives me batty!
ReplyDeleteHope today gets better for you!
Bless you dear woman. Hang in there. And no, grounding does absolutely no good until you can take the car keys away. Your punishment is something he will remember and become so much more mature because of it.
ReplyDeleteYou are doing the right thing. I have an 11 year old and 9 year old and we have the X-Box syndrome. They can concentrate on it for hours, but somehow can't make it all the way to the garbage cans to take the trash out. Our x-box broke the other day and I was glad. They are outside playing so much more now.
ReplyDeleteAMEN SISTA! People look at me sideways around here, when I tell them NO VIDEO GAMES. PERIOD. "Oh but they are fun for the kids" they say. BULL CRAP! Get their tiny hineys outside and they can BE KIDS like NORMAL! Oooo thats a sore subject with me... can ya tell? LOL
ReplyDeleteAs to too much punishment- well, if you had taken him out behind the barn and taken a strap to him until he was raw, yeah- thats too much. But this? Cleaning up? No- kids these days (and most ADULTS TOO) have NO CLUE how to accept the responsibility of their actions or their INACTION. If Big Son gets the idea NOW then *gasp* he stands a fine fine chance of growing up to be a solid citizen, who is RESPONSIBLE. Imagine that would ya... ;)
Kisses to those babies from me- even Big Son- and we'll catch ya soon sis!
You punish him that way and teach him responsibility for his actions and there is now way you will ever teach him to be a good little Liberal! LOL
ReplyDeleteOops! Should have been NO way!
ReplyDeleteGood for you ! As the mom of a 12 year old son - I heartily applaud you. Grounding doesn't do a d--- thing ! My son doesn't know the meaning of 'hard work' , and I am working to change that ! Let me say it again - good for you !!
ReplyDeleteBack in the day, I would've had to clean it up, do my own chores, then my brothers' chores, too, with only time out to eat. My first experience with that I was 8 years old..... yeah, they had it easy with our teenage years!
ReplyDeleteThis will definitely be a learning experience for him.... hopefully?!?
Hope you and Mr. Milkman's nerves are getting under control -- we don't want more than a blown nut!! LOL!!
Oh boy, tough morning, sorry...
ReplyDeleteHaving to clean up after a mistake is how we all learn, some of them are more involved and expensive than others. Hang in there SweetPea!
Whata bummer, I can totally relate... Rock on w/ the burning of the V Games!
ReplyDelete~M~
I agree they must do the clean up work. That's the best lesson.
ReplyDeleteNow about the drywall...... You know, of course, that we had a big flood in the basement. We had to remove all the drywall four feet up the walls in a 1,800 s.f. basement! I can't help you out though because we hired a crew to do the drywall work. It's very hard work. We did retile though so I could help with that.
Omigosh GIRL...what else can go wrong????
OH, I could help with laundry. I love to do laundry. I wish I was closer Heidi, in fact I wish we were neighbors!
I'm hoping for a calmer day for you.
- Suzanne
oh that blows hard core..
ReplyDeletegood job and making him clean it up.
I've sold their crap at garage sales as well.
My 8th grade teacher, Mrs Pechle, always said, "live and learn, Joanna, live and learn."
ReplyDeletewe;lll based on whats happened so far i would say your safer if goes OUT for lunch !! ROFLMAO
ReplyDeleteYOU are a wise mama and on a day like this a nooner is a great idea. Oh yeah lunch.
ReplyDeleteHopefully the sheet rock will dry out do you have any fans?
PS we are getting rid of more and more of that crap it wrecks their brains, hypnotizes them into being idiots with wiggling thumbs and no minds at all. MUD PIES!! BIKE RIDES!
ReplyDeleteYou are in the right track. Somethings are just really hard to learn, but they need to be learned. And the sooner the better.
ReplyDeleteWe can all look back at that horrible 'teaching moment' that changed our focus and therefore our direction in life!
Good for you!
Linda

oh man, what a poopy way to start the day. Glad your day got better heh
ReplyDeleteOh man, that really bites about the basement. My husband spends an obscene amount of time playing on-line computer games... because of this and my frustrations with it I've not allowed my girls to have video games. Even so, they find different ways and excuses for being irresponsible. My youngest routinely floods our bathroom and I'm still waiting for invisabuddy to show up and take his medicine for spilling orange Gatorade (normally not something we have here, it's a long story) on my white couch. Please understand that I never actually purchased white furniture, but that it was given to us second hand from my uncle. Even so, I'd like it to turn gray evenly without large splotches of color. Sorry, it's late and I'm tired. I really hope that the Milk Man didn't literally blow a nut. That sounds painful. Big hugs to you mama!
ReplyDeleteAnchors Aweigh! thats what my cousin in the Navy says, anyhow :)
ReplyDeleteI would have made my kiddo clean the mess too! No doubt about it. I would love to come help ya out! especially w/the morning milkings!
Video games...ugh... I have a hard enough time keeping the s/o off the Wii. I don't let the kids near it! =D
Hope the week gets better for you! *hugs*
Poor Girl!
ReplyDeleteWe all have those days. And good for you making your son clean up after himself. Actions have consequences, and they're not always fun.
Hi Hun,
ReplyDeleteSorry that you are having such a bad day..Hang in there...Todays disasters are often tomorrows memories..Years later they are fondly remembered with lots of love and laughter :)
Love, Light and Blessings
Mrs Snow :)
Hear Hear! I have been going through choretarded phase with my nephew (his mom passed away in 1003, so he lives with us as our own); I think the best thing you can do is exactly what your doing. Make him clean up his mess, fix his mistake and work off the damage. It only takes a couple times before the chroretarded starts to wear off a little and you can actually get high-quality help out of the pubescent mind. Just wait until its driver's license time---OH! The leverage!!!
ReplyDeleteI remember the only time I ever heard my mother say a curse word and it was when our little brother left the bathroom tub running and it overflowed our hardwood floors--just to float a "damn nickel boat".
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I hope you've recovered by now. Having flooded 3 times by natural causes, I can empathize with you on the wet sheetrock deal. And having a 13 year old, I can totally relate to the video game zombie symdrome, too. We have a new family member named I FORGOT!!
Hope things are better today.
I'm catching up, finally. and you have my TOTAL sympathy on this flood!!!! this is like when my washing machine went berzerk and flooded the kitchen and then ran through the floor to the basement. I can totally feel your pain!
ReplyDeleteGOOD for you. They don't learn until they learn to deal with teh consequences. Bet he won't make that mistake again.
