  6. Gosh darn it...just when I thought I had enough blogs to read...I found you from the Country Doctor's site. Eventually I will be able to do nothing all day but read blogs of women who lead interesting farm-based lives from my sterile office with fluorescent lighting.

I believe that they are calf chains.

  8. Ooohhh, you should NOT have to use these on a dairy farm! They are ob chains and hooks. To pull calves. EEEK, I just went and found mine, hope I don't have to use them on any heifers this year.

  14. Okay, so if I'd read the comments written by people who know what they're talking about then I'd have known the hooks are Calf-Pulling Hooks and not hay grabbing hooks. Sorry, only chickens and goats in my livestock experience. Cheers!

  17. Very familiar with those necessary items for every dairy farm.

    Those are Pulling Chains.

They are used to help pull out the calf from the Mother Cow when she is done pushing or just to help speed the delivery along!

  20. i believe thos were first created in the early 1800 as a way to get lazy milmaids out of bed in the morning , You wrap the chain around her feet see and grab the handles and hook them in the chain , pulling very very hard ( depends on size of tookis on said milkmaid) you are generally able to get her outa bed in time for her to make breakfast
